Prosper CSA Learns About OCIA, Welcomes Catholic Convert

April 25th, 2025

PROSPER HIGH SCHOOL - On Thursday, The Prosper High School Catholic Students Association welcomed Mr. Chad Wegner - a catechist and convert to the Catholic faith - as a guest speaker to their meeting. Mr. Wegner was a former Lutheran who converted to Catholicism in 2023. He is the second Catholic convert from the Lutheran Church to speak to CSA, after Mr. Michael DeMarco did so in December. “Mr. Wegner was one of the best speakers yet,” sophomore Andy Bergh said.

Before hearing from Mr. Wegner, a moment of silence for the recent passing of Pope Francis was held. The group then discussed what happens when a Pope dies and how a new Pope is selected.

“Hard work and commitment to the Lord generates success for our daily lives.”

CSA then learned about the process of entry to the Catholic Church known as the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, or OCIA. Senior Keagan Seymour recently entered the Catholic Church through the OCIA during the Easter Vigil mass last week and shared his journey with the group. “Thank y’all for allowing me to share my experience going though OCIA,” Seymour said. He was joined by his father, PHS Auto Tech teacher Mr. Seymour, who also went through the process with his son.

The group then heard from Mr. Wegner, who presented the importance of the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary. “The meeting was about keeping your energy in your faith,” freshman Nick Thorson noted. “You have to suffer properly in order to retain your happiness in the Church.” Mr. Wegner covered each sorrowful mystery of the rosary in detail and explained each’s significance. “I definitely learned a lot about the sorrowful mysteries and the message that they carry,” sophomore Declan Jones said. Mr. Wegner explained how the meaning of each mystery applies to our lives today. “I enjoyed learning about each of the sorrowful mysteries and how that can relate to our current life on a daily basis,” sophomore Elizabeth Hensley said. Mr. Wegner had members think about what word they wanted to represent their life in 3 years. “I really enjoyed Mr. Wegner's talk because he really encouraged us to consider our future goals and how we will continue to incorporate our faith into every element of our lives,” sophomore Patrick Corbett said.

CSA’s next meeting will be on May 8th with updates coming soon.
